The human body is nature’s maximum achievement of beauty. The black male form is the highest expression of masculinity in the human race. Its over-accentuated features provoke an unrestrained admiration in me towards their built, size, smoothness of skin and definition of musculature that makes me curious and fascinated at the same time. Being a Latino it is no surprise that I have many things in common with Blacks. Their affinity and friendliness has always kept me close as a friend and partners to them. It is this reason I began making sketches of them early in my college years. One thing I found about Blacks is that they are so comfortable under their own skin that a sketch, painting, or a photo-study of them is a fun and interesting activity they always welcome without a hesitation. As my collection increased in size I began defining my own nieche and soon realized how little there was on Black American art. Mostly odd was having someone from another race depict Blacks in an artistic, non-exploitive manner. I am one of a kind in the Black Arts field because of my background. It is a priviledge to me, then, to uphold the beauty, heart, and the spiritual apsects of the Black male and make a show to the world what is right under their senses, yet have not made that great leap in beauty and admiration to their fellow darker skin brothers.
