"What Lies Below" began as a clean, geometric painting, that was controlled and structured, but it never felt quite right. So I let go. I layered over it with spray paint, oil pastels, and patterns, with bold blues and sweeping whites to create a bold and expressive artwork. I layered over it with spray paint, oil pastels, and patterns, with bold blues and sweeping whites to create a bold and expressive artwork. All those buried layers quietly showing through add texture and unique details. There are hints of pattern, color, and form emerging from beneath the surface. "What Lies Below" is about exactly that: the beauty that comes from what’s hidden.

Samantha Malone (born 1978) is an Australian/Israeli artist currently based in Tel Aviv. Her work is inspired by geometric abstraction, cubism, and the dynamic interplay between order and chaos.
