The original works that inspired the oil paintings in the exhibition "Mosaics on Canvas" come from various places in Anatolia, particularly Zeugma and Antakya, and date from the second and third centuries AD. The paintings take as their subject stories and heroes from Greek and Roman mythology and were drawn exactly from the original mosaics onto canvas. From the artistic perspective, this may be considered the first time that such a technique has been attempted. In the 15 months from preparation and research to completion, the artist worked intensively, in consultation with two lecturers and three archaeologists from Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University.
