Biography
Born in 1968 in Bulgaria, Rumen Spasov is a multidisciplinary artist, working with various mediums and experimenting with different techniques and art forms. In the beginning of his proffesional career he was painting mostly figurative art, but within the years he found his strong passion for the abstract art with its borderless possibilities of the means of expression. His creative process, unfolds the forms in a continual play between control and letting go. This allows him to express directly the creation impulses. What is more typical for his abstract paintings is the refined style. It doesn't matter if it's an objective or nonobjective abstraction, if accidental discoveries appear in the process of painting, they are intelligently employed to work. The colors are carefully selected to speak in one language and to complete the overall harmony of the paintings. To Rumen the abstraction is like musical improvisation, even there's no depicted real subjects and forms, the viewer can experience different feelings and perceptions. But, the most common and obvious in his overall work is pursuing of aesthetics.
Rumen's paintings are owned by collectors in the States, Europe and Asia and decorate the walls of many private offices and administrative buildings in Bulgaria. He makes solo shows almost each year and takes part in group exhibitions the year around. Through the years he had exhibitions in Los Angeles, Norway, Czech, France and Germany. He used to live for about a decade in California and now he resides in Bulgaria.
