All my work is figurative, abstract and partly inspired by expressionism and cloisonnism. I’m fascinated by shape, posture, movement, dance and body language and how this can create narrative.

I oscillate between loose palette knife impasto work which I aim to leave unresolved and ambiguous enough to leave plenty for the viewer to find. And more graphical abstraction where the use of line can conceal as much as it reveals.

Freud and later Alfred Kinsey suggested it is impossible for most artists to separate their sexuality from their creativity. I believe what the viewer is able to see in my work reveals as much about them and this is quite possibly the root of my artistic enquiry.

My aim is to explore figuration in the hope my process and journey will ultimately take it somewhere it has not been before.

I believe a successful work of art opens itself up to interpretation. Now in 2021, my process is to go as far as I can without reconciling it but far enough to escape what to me is the oblivion of modern nonsensical and ubiquitous abstraction. ‘Recognising the sweet spot and stopping when the painting is at its’ juiciest’
