Rashid Johnson

Rashid Johnson, born in Chicago in 1977, is a prominent conceptual artist in the contemporary American art scene. His career gained momentum in 2001 when he was included in the Freestyle exhibition at The Studio Museum in Harlem, curated by Thelma Golden. Johnson studied at Columbia College Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and his works have been exhibited worldwide.

Known for his multimedia production, Johnson works with photography, painting, sculpture, audio, and video installations. His work explores themes related to race, identity, and African American history, using everyday objects to amplify these narratives. Johnson combines scientific and historical influences, pushing the boundaries of post-black art and inviting the public to reflect on complex social issues.
