Pierre Van Dijk
Pierre van Dijk was born on the 5th of June 1950 in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Holland.
At the age of four Pierre already wanted to paint in all quietness. On his 10th birthday Pierre received his first "real" tubes of oil paint, palette and canvas.
In 1954 the family moved to the Hague. Here he studied from 1967 up to 1972 at the Royal Academy. From 1972 till 1974 Pierre studied at the Free Academy, inspired by and under personal supervision of Livinus van der Bunt, director of the academy and an artist himself.
From 1974 onwards began a series of Exhibitions in Holland and abroad.
In 1977 Pierre moved to Gorinchem and became a member of Pictura Dordrecht. After a number of modern projects, like ‘’Les enfants terribles’’ and ‘’Monument affaire’’ he moved back to his place of birth in 1984. He withdrew himself to reconsider his aims in art and developed his paintings techniques further. Besides his usual panting- and drawing techniques he also developed his air brush technique. The quality of his work resulted in more and more requests for exhibitions, such as the request of Kunstbeeld an important art magazine in Holland, for exhibitions in New York. In 1989 Pierre moved to the U.S.A., where again his paintings were exhibited in several galleries, among these galleries was Gallery 54 in new York. Meanwhile he taught at the Lock Haven University, Pennsylvania.
During the eighties Pierre discovered little by little that his inner drive was, and still is, to capture the phenomenon of light with all its facets and capture it on canvas. Pierre evolved during this period and developed his own colour palette, style and vision.
His vision and use of colour and light are famous and characterise the impressionist paintings of Pierre.
The wish to open a gallery in France, the cradle of impressionism, has been realised with the gallery in the picturesque medieval village Beynac, surrounded by many historical monuments and the natural beauty of the Dordogne.
Since 2010 Pierre is represented on the important international art and antique fair PAN Amsterdam, Holland. In 2009 Pierre has been invited by the international scientific committee to exhibit his paintings at the Biennale of Firenze (Florence) Italy. His work has been publiced at the Drouot Cotation des Artistes and in the Dutch magazine Atelier. Visit also
