Pierre Saladin-Villani

Pierre Saladin-Villani, born in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, France in 1999, lives and works in Toulon, France. Painting interests him and seems more relevant than ever in its physicality, for its material but also for its object-like character, which he sees in opposition to digital immateriality. Thus, he paints bodies, arms, legs, attitudes, fusions, but also solitudes, withdrawals. The characters in his work seem to opt for a defeatist withdrawal, a lethargy that no longer assumes anything, a social withdrawal, an abandonment, in the face of a world surrounded by catastrophes. But he also wants to express the contradiction between this absence of ideals, reminiscent of the Hikikomori, and an energy, a force that drives him to create. In his mind, this intense contradiction of intensities coming from all horizons of the painting is a call for exchange, a desire to awaken and to wake up, a plea for a reciprocity to be reinvented.
