Pierre Mathieu
Pierre Mathieu, born in France in 1964, lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa. He graduated from Toulouse Business School (France) and Nottingham University (England) in Business and Economics in 1987, and later became active in the field of international aid to third world countries. In connection with these activities, he traveled extensively to the poorer regions of the world and more particularly to Latin America and Africa.
Mathieu became interested in the practice of art as reaction and as a means of expression as he traveled the world and confronted to the harsh realities of the developing world and the social disturbances in the cities of the northern hemisphere. His work has been nourished by the tensions and chaos situations related to the brutal changes in our old societies and the economic and environmental degradation of the world.
Even though Mathieu’s main form of expression is painting, he also enjoys exploring photography, sculptures and installations.
Over the past twenty years, he has lived in France, England, the USA, Mozambique and now South Africa.
and has extensively exhibited in France, the USA, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, England, Mozambique and South Africa.
