Paul’s main inspiration is spontaneity. He started painting for the fun of it. Paul paints abstracts in a very “in the moment” style. He makes artwork for the love of discovery, not knowing what’s going to come next, even how the painting is going to turn out. He uses many different tools, acrylic paints, mediums, gessos, crayons, pencils, markers, and varnishes. He loves creating texture and layers using various consistencies of paint to produce artwork that shows “presence.” All the while knowing that when you’re looking at his paintings, you’re seeing something and nothing. Something, which is each person’s individual thoughts about the painting. And nothing, because of course it’s just a painting! It is silent and knows nothing and cannot truly be described in only one way, so any description is sort of untrue. The only thing that’s true is that the painting “is.”
