Olivier Manoury est né à Tulle en 1953.
Installé à Paris avec ses parents,iil étudie le dessin dans les cours du soir de la maison de Victor Hugo, Place des Vosges. Il entre a 18 ans à l'université de Paris IV Sorbonne Nouvelle où il obtient une licence d'anglais et une maîtrise de lettres modernes en 1975
äralellement il entre en 1971à l'École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Il étudie la peinture avec Gustave Singier et Jacques Yankel, et la sculpture avec Etienne Martin. Il a également étudié l'anatomie qui était encore enseigné aux Beaux-Arts
D'abord tenté par la sculpture puis par la peinture, il était influencé à l'époque par Karel Apel et le mouvement Cobra. Il a travaillé un temps comme scénographe et a réalisé des portraits sculptés. Il a pratiqué la photographie abstraite et cinétique et experimenté la coloration chimique des tirages noir et blancs.
À la fin des années 70 il partage son activité de peintre avec la lutherie et la musique dont il est professionnel depuis 1979.
Comme bandonéoniste il a joué dans des ensembles de tango classiques et contemporains et accompagné de nombreux chanteurs. dont Bonga et Dee Dee Bridgewater, Il a monté ses propres formations en France, en Suède en Belgique et en Islande et a joué en Europe aux Etats Unis, en Amérique Latine et au Japon.
Il a écrit et joué dans le monde entier la musique du ballet Che Quijote y Bandoneón de Maurice Béjart en 2000.

La musique occupant la plupart de son temps il s'est concentré sur l'aquarelle, un medium rapide et spontané compatible avec les voyages. Il peint aujourd'hui essentiellement la nature et des paysages urbains.

Olivier Manoury est un artiste indépendant convaincu que le style n(est que la résultante du talent et des limites de chacun. Sa peinture figurative et réaliste cherche a capturer la lumière et l'atmosphère changeantes de la nature.

Marié à la pianiste islandaise Edda Erlendsdóttir, il a beaucoup et peint l'Islande et y a également exposé.

Olivier Manoury was born in 1953 in Tulle (south of France)
He moved to Paris with his parents and studied drawing as a child in an evening drawing school
At 18 he at the University of Sorbonne where he got a Licence in English language and a Master degree in modern Literature in 1975
He was admitted in 1971 at the at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts. He studied painting with Gustave Singier and Jacques Yankel, and sculpture with Etienne Martin. He also studied Anatomy which was still taught at this time.
First tempted by sculpture, then by painting, his artistic influences at the time he left school was Karel Apel and other artists of the CoBra movement. He worked for some times as a scenographer, he made sculpture portraits. He also experienced figurative and abstract cinetic photography, using chemical colorings on black and white pictures.
In the late seventies he became a part time painter, sharing this activity with violin making and playing music, turning a professional musician in 1979.
As a Bandoneon player he has played in many traditional and contemporary tango bands, accompanied many singers and created his own bands in France, Sweeden, Belgium and Iceland, He founded Le Grand Tango, with leading Icelandic soloists
He occasionally appears as a guest in jazz and other improvised music concerts and recordings. He recorded CDs with all the mentionned groups with Dee Dee Bridgewater and african singer Bonga for Polygram

and ballet (He wrote and performed the music of Che Quijote y Bandoneon by Maurice Béjart in a world tour in year 2000)
Music having been for many years his main activity (performing and composing for theatre movies and ballet) he concentrated on watercolor, a spontaneous, small size and quick medium adapted to traveling life, mostly painting realistic nature and urban scenes. 
Olivier Manoury is an independent artist convinced that style is just the combination of skill and limitations, his realistic and figurative watercolors simply try to capture nature's ever changing light and atmosphere.
Being maried to the Icelandic Pianist Edda Erlendsdóttir, he has been traveling extensively in Iceland since 1972, and painting Icelandic nature through the years.
