Jean-Thomas Bédard is een professionele fotograaf uit Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec (Canada). Als schilder, filmmaker en fotograaf begon hij op 12-jarige leeftijd met tekenen. Op 20-jarige leeftijd ging hij naar de École des Beaux-Arts in Montreal, toen naar de animatieafdeling van de National Film Board. Hij was verantwoordelijk voor het regisseren van animatiefilms en documentaires gedurende meer dan 30 jaar. Zijn korte animatiefilm L'âge de Chaise - Chairmen won prijzen op verschillende internationale festivals.
Op 32-jarige leeftijd begon hij aan een wereldreis van een jaar, waar hij erg geïnteresseerd raakte in fotografie. Dit bracht hem ertoe om in Montreal en Toronto een tentoonstelling te presenteren over traditionele manieren van leven in Midden-Amerika, de Stille Oceaan en Indonesië (York University). Hij heeft zijn schilderijen ook tentoongesteld in Montreal, Quebec en Vancouver op verschillende locaties.
In 1985-86 werd hij animatietrainer bij het Centro technico e audiovisual in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilië. Terug in Quebec bleef hij documentaires maken zoals The Crossing of the Night, Father for Life en The Unfinished Journey. In 2003 werd zijn carrière on hold gezet.
Sinds 2011 experimenteert hij met de texturen en kleuren van de natuur in fotografie om stukken te creëren die soms op abstracte kunst lijken en soms op een poëtisch universum. Zijn favoriete onderwerp waren de vele facetten van de kust van St. Lawrence die bij laag water te zien waren.
