Mathilde Oscar is een kunstenaar met een passie voor schilderen, die ze voor het eerst beoefent na haar studie Kunstgeschiedenis. Daarna stapte ze over naar grafiek en ontdekte toen fotografie in 2013 en zette haar picturale ideeën om, sterk geïnspireerd door de grote meesters van schilderkunst, romantiek en neoclassicisme. Het maken van decors, kostuums en accessoires wordt vaak toegevoegd aan zijn creatieve proces, maar soms kunnen sommige van zijn inspiraties voortkomen uit een digitaal gecreëerde wereld. Dit is hoe we in zijn werken dit licht en deze speciale sfeer vinden die zijn foto's tot echte schilderijen maken.
Zo ontwikkelt ze een unieke beeldende kunst die de codes van de klassieke schilderkunst combineert met fotografie en digitale manipulatie. Vaak anachronistisch en ongebruikelijk, lijken zijn portretten verloren in een onbekende ruimte-tijd, met meerdere verwijzingen naar de geschiedenis van de kunst. Haar universum is romantisch en soms getint met surrealisme, waar haar personages, vaak vrouwelijke, trots poseren als charismatische Amazones.
Mathilde Oscar werd geboren in Parijs in 1980, ze woont en werkt in Cannes in het zuiden van Frankrijk. Ze won de Creative Photography Award, "The portrait Masters" in 2019 in de VS en tweede prijzen in 2020. Haar werk was te zien in tal van tentoonstellingen en was het onderwerp van talrijke publicaties en televisie-optredens.
