To get to earth, Alice walks through a door
In the hallway of life, we walk through doors
At the mercy of life, We go from door to door At the bottom of the paradise abyss
We arrive door-to-door, On the way, We cross too many doors Open or closed, Visible or hidden
But do we really have a choice?
Guy-Gerard Ngono was born in Cameroon in 1987. Growing up in Cameroon, a country rich in history and diverse cultures, he was deeply inspired by my surroundings and developed a strong passion for art from a young age.
As he delved into the world of art, he became fascinated by history and how it can shape our present and future society. Guy-Gerard understood that history has the power to divide nations and communities, but also possesses the potential to foster unity and understanding. This realization became the foundation for his artistic vision. The artist's medium of choice varies depending on the message he wants to convey, ranging from Afro-traditional dance performances, painting, and sculpture to installations and multimedia projects.
Artist’s statement
"As an artist very inspired by history and my own life experiences, the shock of rejections and cultural boundaries was particularly challenging, especially at the time I arrived in Poland from Cameroon for studying and trying to learn and break into a “new world”: Europe. The feeling of rejection can be demoralizing and may lead to self-doubt and uncertainty. So, my work centers around creating a platform for dialogue and understanding across cultures. Through my artistic expression, I strive to bridge the gaps between different communities and foster meaningful conversations that explore diverse perspectives. By embracing cultural diversity, my work aims to shed light on shared human experiences, ultimately emphasizing our interconnectedness as a global society. Through this focus on cross-cultural dialogue, I hope to inspire empathy, encourage open-mindedness, and challenge traditional boundaries and stereotypes, eventually fostering a more inclusive and harmonious world."
