This scupture has moviment and it is part of the Shou Sugi Ban Yakisugi series launched by the artist Nalu Fernandes Hamada in 2017, made from upcycled solid wood and Brazilian gemstones, and it also encompasses upcycled metal.
Kahanalu is a Hawaiian word for body surfing, which also was a source of inspiration for this sculpture.

Nalu Fernandes Hamada is a multidisciplinary artist, and her work translates views on human interaction and also on nature, having the concepts of speed, time and emptiness as fundamental forces.
Nalu’s paintings and photographies, in particular, bring the idea of rarefaction, the idea of lessening of density that speed and elapsed time bring out.
Her sculptures play with emptiness, shadow and light.
She earned a master’s degree in semiotics and taught at university for two years.
Her first series were created and launched in 2005.
