Misti Freeman
bio.misti freeman
Born in Douglasville, Georgia in 1981, Misti Dawn Freeman was born holding a silver crayon rather than a silver spoon. From the moment Misti could hold that crayon she became intrigued with art. Misti’s parents encouraged her interest in art by entering her in coloring contests, in which she won her first at the age of three. This spurred her to continue to improve and find ways to use her talent, as she grew older. Eventually this led her to pursue an art degree at the college level.
Misti was trained in art at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia and also at Salzburg College in Salzburg, Austria during the years 2000-2004. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art and a Business Administration Minor. During this time, Misti’s works were exhibited in several galleries around the world and also published in the Shorter College Chimes in three annual editions. Misti’s artwork was accepted into many Shorter College Juried Student Shows and National Student Juried Shows.
Upon graduation, Misti began working full time as an artist. She has been involved in National Juried Shows, Group Artist Exhibitions, and also Solo Artist Exhibitions. Her works can be seen in galleries, businesses, and private homes in Atlanta and the surrounding metro area. To find out more about where you can view Misti’s artwork, visit her website at
Misti has now made the move from Rome, Georgia back to her hometown of Douglasville, Georgia where she now resides. Her studio is also located in Douglasville, where you can find her most of the time.

I paint images by breaking them down into exaggerated shapes of highlights, shadows, and colors. This style is most easily interpreted through the viewer squinting his or her eyes. When the viewer's eyes are squinted, shadows and highlights cast upon objects seem to separate from the object's background and form bolder shapes. I take this vision of the viewer and myself and add intense colors and outlines to make the lights and darks stand out from the background of my canvas even more, thus creating an interesting picture of lights and darks that one may normally see as one squints one's eyes. My art pieces are to be looked at in normal focus; however, carry the same effect as one’s eye’s being squinted.
