For many centuries, cavalry was a type of weapon that played a special role in Poland. The most magnificent victories in the history of wars fought by Poles were associated with it, as well as later military efforts to regain independence or defend it. And my personal attitude to cavalry and its history is special due to family traditions. There is in this the belief in the special predestination of Poles for the horse and service in the cavalry, admiration, sentiment and regret for beauty that will not return. I painted the painting in 2023, inspired by a colorful reconstruction of a cavalry charge, which I had the pleasure of watching on the horse racing track in Służewiec in Warsaw.

Michael Nowakowski is a contemporary Polish artist known for his profound exploration of nature and history through painting. A member of the Association of Polish Artists and the Society of Equestrian Artists in Great Britain, Michael has dedicated himself to the art world since 1992. His preferred mediums include oil and acrylic paintings, alongside various drawing techniques such as ink, pencil, charcoal, and digital art. Beyond his fine art endeavors, Michael has gained recognition for his illustrations featured in numerous books and stories.

Michael's artistic focus centers on animalistic themes, particularly horses and equestrianism, which hold a special place in his work due to their beauty and historical significance. He draws inspiration from his rural surroundings, finding solace and creative energy in the natural landscapes and the diverse animal kingdom. As a self-educated artist, Michael has meticulously developed his craft over the years through diligent study of anatomy, extensive practice in drawing and painting from life, and careful emulation of techniques employed by old masters.

History serves as another pillar of Michael's creative vision, influencing his portrayal of battle scenes that celebrate Polish military heritage. His repertoire extends beyond historical narratives to encompass landscape and portraiture, always striving for a style rooted in realism and hyperrealism. Michael Nowakowski's art not only captures the essence of his subjects but also reflects his deep-seated passion for both artistry and the stories woven into the fabric of history.
