艺术图片银行The figure's hairstyle is reminiscent of a modest halo, while the draping at the back resembles wings. The ribbons refer us to the angelic images by Theophanes the Greek, one of the leading late Byzantine painters of murals, icons, and miniatures. However, Margarita refrains from providing a definitive interpretation of her creation. In addition to an angel, one might interpretate her sculpture as a muse, a genius, or simply an inspired individual.
Inspiration was also gained from sculptural portraits from the Renaissance, such as those by Francesco Laurana. His manner partly is also characterised by the contrast between the filled shape of the face and body, and the carefully arranged, detailed strands of hair. Through "The Spirit," the artist seeks to contribute to the development of classic art, combining the traditions of medieval Orthodox icons and secular art of the Renaissance.
