This charcoal drawing on toned tan Strathmore paper 9x12 is a portrait of a young girl an innocent young girl seen in 3/4 view who stares down intently deep in thought it is both finished in areas and a sketch in others. I wanted to capture in this drawing that life is, even at this age, sometimes an emotional struggle.

Art, to me is an escape from the turmoil and pressures of life, but it is also a way for me to try to make sense of the world around me and to indulge in some things that I might find beautiful or interesting. I am a self taught artist who is always growing and learning using art as a way to express myself in the world. I began drawing at the age of around 5 at my grandparents house as a way to cure boredom while my parents were working full time. I began drawing horses and carriages and cowboys on the back of an old wallpaper roll and instantly found an outlet for my boredom and frustrations. As a teenager my love of art was not encouraged at school and I was taken down the common route of factory work until present where I have renewed my passion and interest in art as a way of coping and expressing myself.
