I am a self-taught artist based in Tbilisi, Georgia. I began making art in the early 1990s. My initial interests were photography and design. In 2012 I began composing music.
I spent my childhood in the coastal Georgian town of Sokhumi, so the sea and nature are key sources of inspiration for me. My works are also imbued with references to ancient culture and art, one of the central motives being the beauty of the human body.
A new stage in my artistic development began in 2013, when my paintings and digital graphic works earned public interest and the attention of art specialists.
I created my first minimalist graphic works with my fingers on my smartphone. Now I create digital art mainly through the use of a tablet and digital pencil. I also paint with oils on canvas.
My art is often minimalistic. The endlessness of lines allows me to add diversity to my drawings and facilitates viewer interaction. The theme of my work takes shape spontaneously, during the drawing process. It is important that I express myself freely and show the viewer my attitudes towards themes of importance to me, such as: the wholeness of the world and interconnectedness of its elements; freedom (personal, religious, social); love; sensuality; and sexuality. Among my main artistic influences are Paul Gauguin, Agnes Martin and Gerhard Richter.
My fascination with ancient and renaissance aesthetics and values is not coincidental. I graduated Tbilisi State University with a speciality in Classical (Greco-Roman) Philology. After earning my master's at the same university, I lectured on the history of Ancient Greek culture.
Alongside producing art, I have always sought more theoretical knowledge in the field. I am also a book publisher. One of the main focuses of my publishing house, Logos Press, is art books. I was chief editor of the Georgian translation of the bestselling The Story of Art by E.H. Gobmrich, which was published in 2012.
