The world of Kurt Manhart: Manhart's images arise in the mind, in his mind. The thoughts are the catalyst for that. The existential experience is inside his pictures and asks questions which are the result of observations of day life. It is a sense of peculiar expression. Where is the connection between the burlesque, sometimes oppressive, and profane to the bizarre of these powerful surrealistic images? A sense of the unusual representations, subversion from partly purposely cheap magazines and partly contemptuous hostile journalism, coupled with immense creativity.
As a mirror of time Kurt Manhart has a grace which is particularly evident in the paintings that accompany his era as a painter. The beginning is not the first stroke on canvas; the images in fact are created by observing the behavior of other people, by events in our world, by expression in the behavior of our society and by catching them in feelings. "I am a victim of today's media world," says Kurt Manhart.
"Captured in the mind by cutting shallow stuff of newspapers and watching television trash, which constantly swamped me in the past, like a tragic tattoo on my head."Guided by the spirit of the times, Manhart's paintbrush moves back and forth next to the situations, like a “stream of unconsciousness” paired with a conscious sadness,
the picture, as if it were an ineluctable and surrealistic will.Is this a lucid dream? Yes, it is.But his mind is a kaleidoscope in the ever and ever new fragmentation of impressions, which in the present, instantly, let us connect to memories. Manhart’s perception and artistic summa flow in all pictures, but also the opposite of them, which magazines and media offer. Manhart: "The world is a waste dump but also a garden of paradise, a sword that decapitate and at the same time a scalpel which heals with beauty."
Kurt Manhart was born in Vienna, lives and works in Vienna and Munich.
