ARTIST BIO

Krista Oremus is a color pencil artist specializing primarily in depicting endangered wildlife. Finely detailed work of creatures in an ancient Bestiary volume inspired Krista to pursue an art medium that would enable her to convey fine details in her own work. Believing that eyes contribute greatly to the emotion of a piece, Krista began creating detailed eye studies of big cats, capturing the intense stare of a tiger or the aloof gaze of a leopard. Trying graphite at first, her art was satisfying but incredibly messy, involving spraying the finished works to preserve them. Moving on to  color pencil, Krista discovered she could achieve details in vibrant color without having to add solvents or preservatives that harm the environment. Her favorite color pencils include Faber Castell Polychromos, Caran Dache and Derwent pencils. She is currently expanding her knowledge with Bonny Snowdon Fine Arts Patreon Group, where she has already made tremendous progress with her color pencil techniques and skills. Krista is a member of Color Pencil Society of America as well as SAA, UK, where her art has been published in SAA’s Paint Magazine.

A self- taught artist, Krista began drawing animals as a child,  not pursuing art on a dedicated basis until later in life. Encounters with endangered species during her travels have sparked Krista’s passion about conservation. She intentionally creates each piece to convey awareness that will help bring hope, preservation, peace and love for our fellow creatures. Krista also is exploring abstract art, creating meditative pieces in contrast to her wildlife artworks.
