For this piece I tried to capture how it feels to have a dissociative disorder. These disorders cause a blurred sense of identity and of the world in general. It heightens other mental health problems one suffers from and can impact every part of one's life.

Starting with a plaster covered canvas, I used a mix of techniques to try to display not only that someone experiencing this may often seem “out of it” to other people, but that it can cause chaos around them. For me this impacts my anxiety and depression the most. Self harm comes into the conversation here as well, as in the past for me it has been the only thing to bring me back into “real life”. This is represented primarily through the carved out plaster dyed with a pinkish red wash and by some of the micron pen lines found on sections of the dyed plaster.
