Josiah c Josiah Born 10th July, 1992 in Taraba State. He hails from Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State. He attended Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, between 2015 to 2019, where he obtained his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Painting. Josiah Chinedu Josiah is an artist to be reckon with. Josiah sees himself as a creator. He, therefore, brings to life what he sees, feels, and imagines, and hopes that each work brings a feeling and a reflection of godlikeness and a higher mindset. He also believes that art has no definition because it evokes different emotions, meanings and purpose to different people. Also, he is a writer, a photographer, and an art coach. The works of Josiah are reflections of his world views, filled with different imaginations and streams of consciousness. Most times, he tends to bring to life images of characters that depict the realities; actions, emotions, feelings and thoughts of the environment at a given time. He has participated in several group exhibitions, including the Sogal Lagos Contemporary Art Auction 2021, Lagos Miniature Art fair 2021, Lagos Miniature Art Fair 2019 and 2018.
My painting is more about life, and everything in life. Life seems to go in endless circus. So my works depict the intrigues of life.
My earlier experiences in painting showed me a way into a universe of endless journeys. I realized that painting is more than just pictures or images. But as I grew and matured in art, I discovered it could be as deep as the ocean and as furious as the sun. I am intrigued when I feel the air around my body, the water flowing through my skin, and the heat of the sun piercing my skin. This I always find a way to interpret. When I look at the shapes of people, I can feel the lines of energy that flow around them.
There is no better truth than the truth of one’s life, one’s own view of the universe. The artist is meant to remember it, provide, advance, and interpret it for anyone. Home, life, death, all are just nothing but lines of moments. The world comes to you as you imagine it. You can give meaning to something that seems meaningless to another person. This shows that art goes beyond just imitating; it represents one’s own truth. It gives one the opportunity to have a voice in the pool of opinions. This is what my work represents.
And most importantly, it is to let each audience find meaning and truth of their own, not based on the meaning given by a conformed idea or institute.
