Irina Szabo

Of Hungarian origin, Irina Szabo was born in 1970 in Paris, where she apprenticed with her father, painter Akos Szabo, who is recognized in Hungary. A specialist in oil painting, which she approaches in the manner of the old masters, she is also skilled in drawing, watercolor, mixed techniques, and decorative painting. She works with both figurative subjects such as portraiture, still life, landscapes, and animal art, as well as abstract art. Among her major influences are Michelangelo, Dürer, Caravaggio, Vermeer, Degas, and Ingres, to name a few. Irina Szabo has been passionate about the age-old processes of oil painting since a very young age, and her work strives to adhere as closely as possible to the techniques discovered in the 15th century by the Flemish school with Van Eyck, and perfected by the Italian Renaissance masters, starting with Leonardo da Vinci. The artist works exclusively with extra-fine quality pigment paints, prepares her mediums based on ancient recipes, paints oils on prepared wood panels, and respects the drying time by layering coats in the manner of the old masters. Irina applies this technique to abstraction, allowing her to render the most minute details as well as light through a perfect suggestion of space.
