Comte Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa was a French painter, printmaker, draughtsman, caricaturist, and illustrator who lived from November 24, 1864, to September 9, 1901. He was immersed in the colorful and theatrical life of Paris in the late 19th century, which helped him create a collection of elegant and provocative images of the sometimes decadent events of that time.
Toulouse-Lautrec was born into a wealthy family. When he was a teenager, he broke both of his legs. Because of a rare condition called Pycnodysostosis, this made him very short as an adult. In addition to being an alcoholic, he became interested in brothels and prostitutes, which led to many of his works being about the bohemian life in Paris at the end of the 19th century. Post-Impressionists include painters like Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, and Georges Seurat.
