Gerardo Viggiano

Gerardo Viggiano, (Vietri di Potenza, 1955) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples at the Department of Scenography. He trained in the artistic environment with the costume designer Odette Nicoletti, the ethnomusicologist R. De Simone, the set designer F. Mancini and directors such as G. Vitiello, Simonelli, Savelli. A total artist, he has a long experience in the field of setting up museums and in the creation of sets and costumes for spectacular outdoor events. As Art Director, Set Designer and Costume Designer he collaborated for the realization of the Cinespettacolo La Storia Bandita (one of the largest spectacular events in Europe that combines gloom, cinema and dance) with the director Victor Rambaldi with the designer Jean Francois Touilland, the architects set designers Emmanuel Bourgeois and Olivier Neguejen Hun. He designs and creates the sets and artistic interventions of the first multi-media museum in Italy "Historiale di Cassino" in collaboration with the master Carlo Rambaldi. He has extended his interests to the design of artistic installations and the production of ceramic and papier-mâché sculptures with a particular focus on the symbolism of the Rooster, a cornerstone of the city of Matera.He participated in the Biennale di Potenza 2019 with creations deriving from research on the world of light and nature. Recognized as one of the leading experts in central-southern Italy in the design and scenographic construction of optical theaters and environmental reconstructions. He has always painted, researches and experiments in contemplation and solitude, techniques and symbols that tell the anthropological experience of the Lucanian man. An interiority that brings fragments of the cosmos to light. It uses symbols and colors to bring the essence of the soul to an emergency through structural synthesis. With his painting he highlights one of the weighty characteristics of contemporary art, the analysis of the fragment, the color and in particular the light, used in an anti-naturalistic key, chosen and freely combined according to a coherence inherent exclusively in the harmony of the composition.
