The subject of the painting is a fragment of a terracotta votive statuette, preserved in the National Roman Museum, represented in a style that "interrupts" realism: perceiving rather than seeing, subjectivity before objectivity. The subject of the painting is a fragment of a terracotta votive statuette, preserved in the National Roman Museum, represented in a style that "interrupts" realism: perceiving rather than seeing, subjectivity before objectivity. (The artistic movement that inspires me is in fact the American Disrupted Realism).
The creation of the image is the result of a complex process of construction, deconstruction and reconstruction of the subject, in which I also insert 'glitches', understood as 'technical errors' of the brush stroke in some points of the work, (created both with the brush than with the spatula).
The image was dismembered into different parts which were then recomposed in an anomalous way. In fact, you can see in the center of the subject a sort of square that encloses the central part of the statue's face. If you flip the image you will instead see the outline of the statue's face that 'encloses' the upside-down central square.
