Fwed
Fwed is a French artist born in 1971.
He was interested in drawing and painting from his childhood, then developed a passion for all urban arts. Self-taught and multidisciplinary, he creates urban interventions, sculptures with recycled materials, but his major artistic activity is now the production of paintings from lacerated posters.
Attracted by what is old, torn, damaged, rusty, pierced, grated, by stains, drips, splashes, but also by art brut and arte povera, Fwed willingly defines himself as a new realist, in the line of artists like Jacques Villeglé or Mimo Rotella. By creating from materials salvaged from the public space, he places himself in a totally contemporary urban movement.
Fwed travels the streets to discover the posters that will make up his paintings, peels them in their thickness, in search of images, typographies, colors or even tags, which he then inserts into his works. These function like a photograph of society: they offer a fragile material - paper - the possibility of surviving time, and allow the collective memory to keep track of socio-cultural manifestations before they sink into oblivion, quickly chased away by other events...
The fragments of paper selected, superimposed, lacerated, compose a multicolored palette allowing the collages of Fwed to find themselves on the side of pictoriality. The immersion in his work as a poster designer thus takes us on a journey to the border between abstraction and figuration, between a formal composition and the freedom of tone of urban art.
