The Talented Frank Mhukayesango, A young Artis, born and raised in Zimbabwe, hand-carved this magnificent piece of art depicting an Old Himba Lady. This artwork was carved from Ironwood
This artwork depicts the older generation of the Himba People, The early settlers and indigenous people of Namibia. The Artist used a dark reddish timber colour; this is because the Himba people were known to use clay and butterfat to protect their skin, and this gave them a red shade to the skin, giving them the title “The Red Women”.
On the old Himba woman’s head is a woven basket, an artefact that Himba women commonly made using beautiful structural shapes. Traditionally these baskets were used as storage for milk or fat.
This artwork is small yet highly detailed. This sculpture is perfect for people that would like small artefacts to fill their homes with which are still meaningful and have a history tied to them.
