The beautiful result of manual craftwork and digital manipulation combined into an eye-catching mixed media artwork. To start off, the artist has used mediums like graphite for the face, acrylic, stencil, cement and spray paint on canvas. After the manual work, the artist has made a high-res photo and used digital manipulation to play with colors and composition, and to give it its modern and vivid appearance. The end result is printed on high-quality canvas and mounted in a black floating frame.

Hi there,

My name is Tarja (Vandergoot) and I’m a self-taught artist from The Netherlands. I specialize in realism and mixed media art.

Let me start with a little assumption. You’re looking at my art - liking it (or not and you’ve already gone) - but you’re a little confused about what you’re actually looking at.. Is it print? Is it paint on plexiglass or… No worries! Let me explain how my art comes into existence.

I draw graphite portraits of women that embody power and mystery…I hereby focus on the eyes as I believe the eyes are one of the senses through which you, as consciousness, experience yourself and your creativity. Occasionally I use a photo and integrate it digitally if the picture’s quality is too low for realistic drawing. This is often the case with older iconic photos for example of Brigitte Bardot. After I’ve finished drawing it’s time to grab a canvas to go wild with paint, collage, cement, stencils,…Anything I feel the artwork needs! When the drawing and the abstract work are finished I take a high-res photo of both and digitally merge the two together. I then play with colors, shapes, highlights, and shades to make the artwork really come to life. Depending on the outcome I have the art printed behind high-quality plexiglass or on (brushed) aluminum. In the latter, I sometimes choose to add extra paint and collage elements and coat the artwork with epoxy resin to give the artwork a lot of depth and body.

Some of my sources of inspiration:
Masato Tsuchiya (drawings), Melissa La Bozzetta, Maaike Wycisk (colors and femininity), Amy Shekhter (epoxy art), Yossi Kotler & Paco Raphael (colors and shapes)

Please feel free to look around!

Tarja.

Ps. All my art can be ordered in various sizes if desired. Just contact me.
