Andreas Schmidt lebt und arbeitet in Köln, unter dem Akronyme ASAK fertigt er einzigartige und aufwendige Kunstwerke aus alten Schallplatten. Vinyl ist ein schwierig zu verarbeitendes Material und viel Detailreicher, als man als Laie vielleicht auf den ersten Blick vermuten würde. Im Thema Schallplattenkunst ist ASAK ein absoluter Experte. Wie schneidet man zum Beispiel ein Material, was bei Hitze schmilzt und wieder zusammenklebt oder unkontrolliert brechen kann? Er selbst bezeichnet sich als Audiodidakt.
Andreas Schmidt macht vermutlich weltweit etwas Einzigartiges und möchte zusätzlich mit seinen Kunstwerken auch auf den Umweltschutz aufmerksam machen. Das Recyclen von Plastik, welches sonst im Müll landen würde, um daraus etwas Schönes zu bauen, ist eine schöne Botschaft. ASAK verwendet für seine Kunstwerke aber nicht nur „irgendwelche Schallplatten“ – sondern hier steckt Liebe im Detail. Longplayer haben beispielsweise andere Rillen, als Singles – dadurch sind andere Muster und Ergebnisse möglich – generell ist sich ASAK sicher, das Vinyl ein total unterschätztes Material ist, seiner Meinung nach sollte es möglich sein, aus altem Vinyl auch Bausteine herzustellen und somit in der Theorie auch Häuser.
Bis heute hat ASAK bereits zwischen 3000 und 4000 Schallplatten in seinen Kunstwerken verarbeitet - auch für Auftragsarbeiten ist er offen.
ASAK macht mit seinen Upcycling Kunstwerken nicht nur auf den Natur- und Umweltschutz aufmerksam, sondern setzt sich auch öfter als Sprachrohr für einen guten Zweck ein. Zuletzt zum Beispiel am 2. & 3. März 2024 veranstaltete MEDtiopia eine Charity-Ausstellung & Vernissage in der Kölner Galerie Art of Buna mit After-Art Party.
