TIM SKINNER Artist

Born Hatfield Peverel, Essex, England late 1980.
Passed three A-Levels at the Witham Sixth Form
Centre, and then completed a Fine Art BTEC Foundation
Course. Graduated with a BAHons from Colchester
School of Art in 2003. Then gained a one year
Scholarship at Cuckoo Farm Studios. When
Completed I stayed on at Cuckoo Farm Studios
as a permanent tenant.

I’m an artist who flits in and out of different media, whilst
keeping to a similar theme. Something which stems from
the influx of multi-media exhibitions around the turn of this
century. An element which is blossoming in so many
contemporary artists.

My subject matter has been constant for the past 9 years.
My work surrounds the power and beauty felt in music. It can
touch the soul and take you away from the real world. It’s an
art form that has turned my life around when I needed help.
My art allows me show those worlds which I find myself in
when experiencing the emotions of music. Following
Kandinsky’s ideas and theories closely. I enjoy playing
with dimensions: sound art gives me the ability to work in the
fourth dimension, while using the known visual
symphony of the second dimension.

Not only do I work with sound but I’m an accomplished oil
painter, citing Rembrandt, Turner and Hammershoi amongst
my many influences. It’s the works of the artist Hammershoi
to which I feel my images of loneliness have the greatest connection.
Still empty landscapes is the subject which mostly dominates my
paintings but it’s interrupted by images taken from films, music
or famous paintings. This I feel is my soul exploring beauty, or
what I perceive to be beauty.

As well as painting, photography, printing and video have all
featured in my work over the past 7 years.
