Where to find the CVV or CVC number on my credit card?

What is the CVV or CVC number on a credit card?

The "Card Verification Value" (CVV) number on your VISA®, MasterCard®, or Discover® credit card or debit card is a three-digit number. It is a 4-digit number on your American Express® credit card or debit card.

How to find the CVV number?

You can find your CVV number on the back of your credit or debit card, as shown in the picture below:

CVV Number

When you give your CVV number to an online merchant like Artmajeur, it shows that you really do have the credit or debit card in your possession. This keeps you safe and cuts down on fraud: we know that you are the true card holder.

Your card's secret PIN is NOT the CVV number (Personal Identification Number).

When asked for your CVV, you should never enter your PIN number. (PIN numbers let you use your credit or debit card at an ATM, in person, or to get a cash advance with any credit card.)

CVV numbers are also called "Card Security Code" (CSC) numbers and "CVV2" numbers, which are the same as CVV numbers but harder to "guess" because they were made using a second generation process.
