V&A Museum reveals winner of prestigious Jameel Prize

The V&A has awarded the 2024 Jameel Prize to Khandakar Ohida for his film Dream Your Museum , celebrating contemporary Islamic art. An exhibition of the finalists will be held at the V&A South Kensington from 30 November 2024 to 16 March 2025.

The V&A recently announced the winner of the Jameel Prize, a global award celebrating contemporary Islamic art. The prize highlights how Islamic traditions are integrated and reinvented in today’s art.

This year, the Jameel Prize received 300 entries. An international jury selected seven finalists, of which Khandakar Ohida won the £25,000 prize for his film Dream Your Museum . An exhibition featuring the finalists’ work will be held at the V&A South Kensington from 30 November 2024 to 16 March 2025.

“The Jameel Prize has become an essential platform for showcasing diverse interpretations of cultural heritage in modern contexts,” said Tristram Hunt, Director of the V&A and Chair of the jury, which included renowned artists, curators and researchers. This year, a particular focus was on moving image and digital media, highlighting the continuing evolution of contemporary Islamic art.

Now in its seventh year, the Jameel Prize has received over 1,700 entries from over 40 countries since its inception. It reflects the V&A’s commitment to diverse and inclusive art, inspired by rich Islamic traditions.
