About the author
Sio Montera is an abstract artist and multi-awarded art professor from the Philippines. He is a faculty of the Fine Arts Program of the College of Communication, Art, and Design in the University of the Philippines Cebu. His artistic body of work has been featured in the country’s leading galleries and institutions with over thirty solo exhibitions as a testament to his proficiency. His works have also been selected to represent the Philippines in international art fairs and biennales including the prestigious Gwangju Biennale, the Beijing Art Biennale. He was awarded the top prize for non-objective art in the 2010 Philippine GSIS painting competition and a juror’s choice award in the 2011 Philippine Art Awards. He obtained his Master in Fine Arts degree from University of the Philippines Diliman and accomplished a PhD in Creative Industries Design from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. As an academic, his research work has been presented in international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals. The University of the Philippines has acknowledged his accomplishments as a twice-recipient of the Artist Productivity Award and Gawad Chancellor Awards. Sio Montera is also active in cultural community work as a executive council member of the National Committee on Visual Arts in the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts from 2007-2025.
