Zhang's formal artistic education began with his graduation from the Fine Arts Department of Zigong Teachers College in 1995. In the year 2000, Zhang Kai Xi embarked on a more specialized phase of his artistic exploration when he entered the Oil Painting Department of the prestigious Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. From 2007 to 2010, Zhang's dedication to his craft led him to pursue a master's degree in the School of Arts at Southwest University for Nationalities.
