Евгений Меркулов родился в 1976 году в Приазовском городе Ейск. Жизнь на побережье Азовского моря во многом предопределила развитие личности художника. С детства Евгений занимался музыкой, серьезные же занятия живописью начались уже в достаточно зрелом возрасте - после окончания эстрадно-джазового отделения БГИИК (Белгородский Государственный институт искусства и культуры 1997 год). Несмотря на то, что любовь к рисованию сопровождала художника с ранних лет, не что иное, как всплеск эмоций в студенческие годы побудил к новым творческим открытиям в себе и в окружающем пространстве. Что в свою очередь послужило фундаментом для более глубокого и подробного изучения этой грани искусства. Во многом именно музыкальное творчество позволило Евгению увидеть возможности живописи как способа выражения собственных мыслей, а в некотором смысле даже мечты.
