About the author
Margreet Duijneveld is a contemporary artist born in 1964 in Akersloot, The Netherlands. She has lived and worked in Nuremberg since 1984. From an early age, Duijneveld was captivated by the world of books, fascinated by the smell of printed letters, the mystery of the drawings, and the tactile experience of the pages. This early love for visual storytelling ignited her passion for painting as soon as she could wield a pencil, and she has remained an avid reader throughout her life.
Duijneveld's primary artistic medium is linocut, a technique she discovered in 1986 during an internship at Heinz Thurn's printing workshop in Nuremberg. Most of her artwork is created using this method, which she embraces for its unique charm. Each limited-edition print is hand-colored, ensuring that every piece is one-of-a-kind. Her work aims to please the eye and the heart, rather than to teach or shock.
The linocut process represents a creative journey for Duijneveld, combining her passions for art and craftsmanship. She relishes every step, from conceptualizing and sketching the motif to transferring and carving the lino, and finally designing and applying colors with gouache and colored pencils. Duijneveld embraces the slow, rhythmic nature of her work, viewing herself as a craftswoman. Her creations are infused with positive energy, intended to bring joy and provoke thought without overwhelming the viewer.
