Valentin
BASILIDES Bálint-Géza (Valentin ) was born in a Budapest-based family of artiste in 1944. In 1956 he emigrated to Neuchatel, Switzerland. After various occupations, he became a manager in the electronics industry. From 1955 he visited the painting courses of the noted Swiss watercolorist Pierre Beck. He and his wife made several study tours of Italy, Greece, Israel, Turkey, the Sinai and France. In 1998 Valentin quit his career in industrial management to devote himself wholly to painting. Since 1999, he has lived and worked near Lake Balaton (Cserszegtomaj) with his painter wife. He is member of the International Free Art Colony of Cseszegtomaj and the Mednyánszky Compagny. He also teaches watercolour painting.

Sans titre
Le titre d’un tableau est bien plus qu’un nom.
Il est une aide, un guide.
Il dit ce que l’artiste veut communiquer.
Il dit dans quelle direction les pensées du spectateur doivent aller.
Il est donc aussi un œillère, qui canalise le regard et la pensée.
Présenter des tableaux sans titre est une liberté offerte au spectateur.
Son regard et sa pensée peuvent voler librement d’une association d’idée à une autre.
Sa fantaisie peut se déchaîner. Le spectateur ne connaît pas la motivation de l’artiste.
Il peut donc interpréter librement le message.
Sans la limitation du titre au message conscient, le message inconscient est aussi perceptible.
La liberté a aussi des inconvénients : elle responsabilise, elle demande un effort, elle est un miroir de nous-mêmes.
Mais sans liberté, sommes-nous des hommes ?
C’est donc un peu de liberté que nous offrons aux visiteurs.
