Elsa Weldemariam is a talented artist who currently resides between Sweden and Montreal. Her passion for art began during her high school years in 1997 and led her to attend art school. Her exceptional work earned her first place in a regional high school art competition. Despite working as a social worker for most of her professional life, Elsa has always found ways to incorporate art into her work. One notable example is her use of art therapy during counseling sessions with children and youth, helping them express themselves through pictures and symbols to foster self-awareness and self-esteem. Elsa's artistic skills and ability to use them in her profession make her a truly remarkable individual.
"I find inspiration in the shapes, movements, and textures of nature. My artwork aims to create an illusion of three-dimensional surfaces and shapes that can be both seen and felt. My goal is to engage people's senses by producing realistic and immersive art pieces. Currently, I mostly create mixed media pieces using materials like fabrics, modeling paste, glue, sand, acrylic, and air-dry clay. I showcase my artwork through solo and group exhibitions, Texture Art teaching sessions, and collaboration projects such as "The Infinity Project" with Tires Lieu Montréal. This project focuses on using recycled materials in art, and my work is environmentally friendly and also uses recycled materials."
