Jews in Galicia lived in almost all areas, small towns, and, of course, in all major centers. Books and newspapers were published in their Yiddish language. However, most Jews were assimilated linguistically and used either Polish or German. The Jews of Galicia had a serious intellectual influence in the philosophical and religious sphere (Martin Buber), literature (Joseph Roth and Masha Kaleko), the natural sciences, cinema (Billy Wilder), jurisprudence and in many other areas of culture and science. Despite the fact that Zionist ideas were quite widespread among the Jews of Galicia, most of them considered Galicia their real home.
