Silence Between the Notes is a photographic essay based on portraits of musicians. Silence Between the Notes is a photographic essay based on portraits of musicians. The title is derived from conversations with musicians, their performances and in their attempt to convey what they hear in the silence between musical notes. This silence forms an integral bridge between the mathematical aspect of music construction and the underlying emotional currents that parallels my approach to photography and ultimately a source from where I draw inspiration.

This project evolved from a documentary I was filming on Blues and Jazz musicians in Montreal. This proximity allowed me to gain a more intimate access to their world. I was intrigued by the creative process of music making from live performances to the recording studio. This ultimately inspired me to explore photography as an art form opening the door to an intuitive approach, beyond a documentary point of view, and was the genesis for this project of portraiture and interpretation of Jazz music performances.
