The girl in the red hat.
60x60x2 cm ©2020 by Desag. This canvas is made with acrylic paint and acrylic inks, on a linen canvas. The title of the canvas "the girl with the red hat" refers to the famous painting by Johannes Vermeer painted around 1666, it is 23 cm x 18 cm. Indeed, I was inspired by this work to create my own canvas. In my childhood, I was fascinated by the painters of the Flemish school. Their approaches in the light, the quality of the drawing in subjects always a little bit similar. For me, I exploded the architecture of Vermeer's canvas. To recompose it in my own way, as close as possible to the order of the colours. Moreover, I painted with great creative freedom. Because even if the figurative (which I still work sometimes) can please me, I confess that I am only happy in the contemporary abstract, even conceptual! I will share with you a secret: for me painting and creating is living and often surviving! I am only happy when I paint! So finally, as time goes by, the subject of my painting is not so important, what matters is the feeling(s) with which I carry out my work. The painter Vermeer died rather young at the age of 43. While painting my canvas, I thought of him to share this painting with me. Thank you for your visit!

Desag is a contemporary French artist whose work explores the dynamic interplay between color and form. His art reflects a profound interest in the power relationships that emerge from these interactions, striving to capture their alchemical essence on canvas. Desag’s approach involves crafting varied, aesthetic, and vividly colorful compositions that engage both the eye and the mind.
Central to Desag's artistic philosophy is the idea that invisible flows and currents traverse our universe. These mystical forces serve as foundational elements in his work, shaping the structure of his paintings. Desag classifies his creations into two distinct opuses: Earthly, which draws inspiration from the ground, and Aerial, influenced by the sky. Each opus features unique graphic styles, but their often-chaotic elements converge harmoniously in the final composition.
Desag predominantly works with acrylics but occasionally incorporates oil paints and pigments. His preferred surfaces include square-format canvases ranging from 20x20 cm to 120x120 cm, as well as wooden panels and paper. The artist meticulously prepares his canvases to suit the specific requirements of each piece.
When encountering Desag's work in an exhibition, viewers are invited on a vibrant and intricate journey. Their gaze is guided along pathways rich in allure and color, offering transitions and discoveries across the canvas. Each piece presents an aesthetic experience that is both visually captivating and intellectually stimulating.
