Ihre Malerei begann mit realistischen Grundlagen und sie erforschte und erforscht während ihrer gesamten Tätigkeit immer wieder neue Methoden und experimentiert mit Collagen, Spachtelmassen und Materialien. Magdalena Oppelt zeigt figürliche Malerei mit perspektivisch irritierenden Fahrzeugen, herangezoomten Muscheln und Torsi. Daneben finden sich auch transformierte flächige Kompositionen in reliefartig aufgebrochenen Schichtungen. Sie arbeitet ausschließlich mit reinen Pigmenten. Ihre Spachtelmassen stellt sie aus Gesteinsmehlen und Lehm aus dem Bodensee her. Sande aus der ganzen Welt, die sie von ihren Reisen mitbringt, bringt sie gerne in ihre Arbeiten ein.
Ihre Inspiration holt sie sich auf Autofriedhöfen, alten Gebäuden und auf Reisen.
