Si Patrick Charuel maîtrise des techniques telles le pastel, l'huile ou la gouache, techniques qu'il mélange allègrement dans ses œuvres pour nous offrir un cocktail pétillant, sa capacité à restituer la beauté naturelle est le fruit d'un très long apprentissage d'une discipline très respectée au Japon et aux Etats-Unis : l'aérographie. Ses efforts viennent par ailleurs d'être récompensés puisqu'au terme de 15 années de pratique de l'aérographie, cet artiste est aujourd'hui publié aux Etats-Unis.
En effet, 10 ans de pratique au minimum sont nécessaires pour pouvoir prétendre au titre de peintre-aérographe, car le réalisme obtenu passe par une éducation artistique rigoureuse afin d'explorer les innombrables possibilités de cet outil. Patrick Charuel utilise ainsi la technique main levée, mais aussi celle du masquage, une technique complexe et dense permettant un travail minutieux et détaillé.
