Genesis of Painting

Born in 1961 in Algeria to Spanish grandparents, winegrowers and market gardeners, I spent my childhood in Gigean in Hérault, in my father's carpentry shop, on the edge of the 113 which runs towards Mèze and the Thau lagoon.

In order to participate in the life model workshops at the Beaux Arts de Sète as a free auditor, I learned before my time to drive an orange motobécane, without a helmet. Dazzled, I crisscrossed the Gardiole and the hills of La Moure, (where you could find a petrol lamp in each village), and learned by heart the curves of the Haut Languedoc. I evoke them in my painting, in the tearing of the sky which reveals the free canvas in the background of the Yellow Houses.
