Je suis né en 1942 à Paris. Ecole primaire en banlieue, Lycée Montaigne, Ecole Estienne. Musicien de jazz. J'ai commencé à dessiner très jeune, et à peindre en 1959. Après un séjour en Suède j'ai travaillé comme typographe et imprimeur typographe, puis plus tard, comme linotypiste, et finalement comme metteur en pages au Herald Tribune. On trouve aussi du quartz, des pierres rares, du schiste, des lamelles géologiques, du rubis et du cubique que jouent aux quatre coins avec l’éclat de la floraison. Et voilà même des nus puissants, des orangés subtils, des marbres qui prennent vie sous la spatule de l’artiste. La pluie des couleurs fait des claquettes sur l’arc-en-ciel des toiles. Au pinceau ou au couteau, Vernhettes a le trait sûr. Entre l’inspiration et l’improvisation, il gambade, cavale, imprime son style. Le style, il s’agit bien de cela. Un tempérament.
