In 2013, when I officially decided I would become an artist, this was the first image I transformed into an artwork—a digital manipulation that now lives framed in my own collection. More than a decade later, I felt called to revisit it, giving it new textures, colors, and layers of history. It’s a remix of memory, nostalgia, and that forever fascination with faded city giants still standing against time.
acrylics, spray paint, inkjet prints and stencil and on a collage of discarded paper on cotton fabric, 2025.

Cícero Spin is a Brazilian mixed-media artist, born in Brasília in 1973 and living in Fortaleza since 2006. His work is a fusion of pop art, graffiti and street art, with a strong influence from urban visual culture and the aesthetics of wear and tear - the trace of time imprinted on the surfaces of the city. His artistic career began independently, guided by intense study and daily experimentation with materials and techniques. The turning point came in 2012, when he visited Art Basel Miami and realized that not only did he like art, but that he could create his own works. The impulse to start was so strong that the idea never left his head, and over the next few months he immersed himself in learning the fundamentals of drawing, elements of art, composition and mixed techniques. It was a calling that required courage, as it meant embarking on a new path as an adult and dealing with possible misunderstandings. But right from the start, it was clear that it wasn't a hobby - it was a vocation.
Cícero Spin has developed his own style, in which the reuse of discarded materials is a central element. He builds his own supports from office papers, old book pages, fragments of magazines and newspapers, glued together or on fabrics.
This base is transformed into a textured visual field reminiscent of city walls, where layers of paint, torn posters, advertising and graffiti fragments accumulate over time. Through this construction, he seeks to reveal reminiscences of beauty, even in the midst of noise and chaos. His creative process usually involves digital and manual phases. He often uses the iPad and computer for planning and composition, often resorting to public domain images, which are digitally manipulated and then printed to compose collages or serve as the basis for new layers of paint. Stenciling is a recurring technique, both in the digital phase and in the final execution of the work, as is inkjet or laser printing on reused paper. He also uses algorithmic art, creating drawings with a simple plotter and interfering manually to bring unexpected elements into the compositions. His references come from pop culture, especially from the 1950s to the 1980s, old comics, music concert posters, abstract expressionism and especially abstract realism.
