Contemporary Art Bahia. It is past time to talk about contemporary art production in Bahia, as we know not everything that is produced in the present moment can be described as contemporary art. CELSO CUNHA nasceu na manhã do dia 7 de junho de 1953 no largo de Nazaré em Salvador a negra e barroca capital da Bahia-Brasil.


Estudou artes plásticas e arquitetura na Universidade Federal da Bahia. Em 1979 aos 26 anos, foi vencedor do concurso público de âmbito nacional, para execução de um imenso mural a ser instalado no foyer do teatro Yemanjá do Centro de Convenções da Bahia. Este reconhecimento oficial, definiu sua forte vocação artística. Celso, enquanto artista, caracteriza-se pelo completo domínio e utilização de vários materiais e técnicas, na elaboração de seus trabalhos. Seu atelier é um laboratório de alquimia, como ironiza. Em permanente pesquisa de combinações e utilização de materiais, está sempre receptivo aos artistas, amigos e público em geral, ministra cursos e dispõe-se a acompanhamento técnico, na área de murais e esculturas. Sua produção é bastante sintonizada, influenciada e integrada à arquitetura. Dentre seus trabalhos destacam-se os seguintes:

CELSO CUNHA est né au petit matin du 7 juin 1953, dans le quartier de Nazaré à Salvador, la nègre et baroque capitale de la Bahia.



Il étudia les arts plastiques et l'architecture à l'Université Fédérale de la Bahia. En 1979, à l'age de 26 ans, il gagna le concours public national pour une immense sculpture murale destinée au foyer de Centre de Conventions de la Bahia. Cette reconnaissance officielle scella sa vocation artistique. Celso Cunha, comme artiste, se caractérise par la maîtrise des nombreuses matières et techniques qu'il utilise pour l'élaboration de son ouvre. Il considère avec ironie son atelier comme un laboratoire d'alchimie, lieu d'étude permanente de combinaisons et d'utilisation de la matière. Il est toujours réceptif au artistes, amis et public en général et est recherché pour son expérience pour donner une assistance technique à ses collègues. Sa formation d'architecte transparaît dans l'ensemble de son ouvre. Parmi ses travaux, on peut noter :
